প্রতিবেদনে বলা হয়, গুগল ও ফোর্ডের মধ্যে চুক্তিটি যদি চূড়ান্ত হয়, তবে তা আগামী বছরের জানুয়ারি মাসের প্রথম সপ্তাহে লাস ভেগাসে কনজুমার ইলেকট্রনিকস শোতে প্রকাশ করা হতে পারে।
গুগলের একটি সূত্র বলেছে, তারা অনুমাননির্ভর কোনো বিষয়ে মন্তব্য করে না। তবে গুগল কর্তৃপক্ষ গাড়ি নির্মাতাদের সঙ্গে আলোচনা করার বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করেছে।
২০২০ সাল নাগাদ বাজারে স্বয়ংক্রিয় পদ্ধতির গাড়ি বাজারে আনতে এ বছরের শুরু থেকেই গাড়ি নির্মাতা, যন্ত্রাংশ নির্মাতাসহ বিভিন্ন প্রতিষ্ঠানের সঙ্গে আলোচনা শুরু করে গুগল।
এ বছরের জুন মাসে ছোট আকারের স্বয়ংক্রিয় একটি গাড়ি উন্মুক্ত করে গুগল, যা যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের মাউন্টেন ভিউয়ে গুগলের নকশা করা রাস্তায় পরীক্ষামূলকভাবে চালানো হয়। অস্টিনেও গাড়ি নিয়ে পরীক্ষা চালায় গুগল। গুগলের মূল প্রতিষ্ঠান অ্যালফাবেটের অধীনে গাড়ি নির্মাতা ইউনিটটিকে আলাদা একটি প্রতিষ্ঠান হিসেবে দাঁড় করানো হতে পারে।

প্রযুক্তি প্রতিষ্ঠান গুগল এবার সৌরশক্তিচালিত ড্রোন বা চালকবিহীন বিমান থেকে ৫জি ইন্টারনেট সেবা দেওয়ার পরিকল্পনা বাস্তবায়নে কাজ করছে। দ্য গার্ডিয়ানের এক প্রতিবেদনে জানানো হয়, গুগলের প্রজেক্ট লুন বা বেলুনের মাধ্যমে প্রত্যন্ত অঞ্চলে ইন্টারনেট প্রকল্প বাস্তবায়নকারী একটি টিম গোপন এ প্রকল্পটি নিয়ে কাজ করছে। গুগলের প্রকল্পটির নাম ‘স্কাইবেন্ডার’। এ প্রকল্পটির মাধ্যমে সৌরশক্তিচালিত ড্রোন থেকে ৫জি ইন্টারনেট সেবা দেবে গুগল। এই প্রকল্পের মাধ্যমে ‘মিলিমিটার ওয়েভ’ বেতার তরঙ্গে তথ্য স্থানান্তর করতে পারবে গুগল। মিলিমিটার ওয়েভে ফোরজি বা এলটিই নেটওয়ার্কের চেয়ে ৪০ গুণ দ্রুতগতিতে তথ্য স্থানান্তর করতে সক্ষম হবে।
ওয়াশিংটন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের গবেষক জ্যাকস রুডেল বলেন, বর্তমানে মোবাইল ফোনের জন্য বরাদ্দ করা তরঙ্গ অনেকেই ব্যবহার করছে। মিলিমিটার ওয়েভের বড় সুবিধা হচ্ছে, এতে নতুন তরঙ্গ মিলবে। এই তরঙ্গের বৈশিষ্ট্য হচ্ছে, এটি খুব স্বল্প দূরত্ব অতিক্রম করতে পারে। মোবাইল ফোনের সংকেতের সঙ্গে একে তুলনা করা যায় না। গুগল এই সমস্যা সমাধান করে আকাশ থেকে ড্রোনের মাধ্যমে ইন্টারনেট বিম করার পরিকল্পনা করেছে।

ইংরেজিতে টুজি, থ্রিজি, ৪জি বা ৫জিতে ব্যবহৃত ‘জি’ অর্থ জেনারেশন বা প্রজন্ম। ৫জি হচ্ছে, পঞ্চম প্রজন্মের ওয়্যারলেস বা তারহীন নেটওয়ার্ক প্রযুক্তি। অবশ্য এর মান এখনো নির্ধারণ করা হয়নি। যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের মোবাইল অপারেটর এটিঅ্যান্ডটি নেটওয়ার্ক অপারেশনসের প্রেসিডেন্ট বিল স্মিথ বলেন, ২০১৮ সালনাগাদ ৫জির সংজ্ঞা নির্ধারণ করা হতে পারে। ২০১৯ সালে ইন্টারন্যাশনাল টেলিকমিউনিকেশন ইউনিয়ন (আইটিইউ) ৫জির মান নির্ধারণ করবে। কোন প্রযুক্তিকে ৫জি বলা যাবে বা কোন বৈশিষ্ট্য থাকবে বা এর গতি কেমন হবে—এই মান তা ঠিক করবে।
তবে প্রযুক্তি বিশ্লেষকেরা এখনই ৫জি সম্পর্কে কিছুটা ধারণা করতে পারেন। তাঁদের মতে, শক্তি সাশ্রয়ী, দ্রুতগতির ও স্মার্ট হবে ৫জি। এতে নতুন তারহীন প্রযুক্তির পণ্য বাজারে পাওয়া যাবে। এতে আরও দ্রুতগতির স্মার্টফোন, স্মার্ট বাড়িতে ব্যবহৃত পণ্য ও দীর্ঘস্থায়ী প্রযুক্তিপণ্য তৈরি করা যাবে।
